Aside from the smaller and lighter aspects of the change there are a number of other things that need to be considered particulary if you are upgrading from the 1 or 2 to the 3. Housings and mounts are also the same, providing numerous opportunities for mounting to any motorcycle. The HD HERO 2 has more than twice the resolution of previous HEROs with a new 11mp sensor, video and photo processing has been doubled to match the increased resolution. Mounting System Harking back to my childhood days of Meccano sets, using the rods and screws supplied, you can set the camera into all sorts of strange angles. It is the same edition you reviewed and at the end of the list of included items you mention this “assorted mounting hardware”, but I cannot see anything in the picture that would suggest what it is. The wide range of options for resolution for both video and stills means you have a mode for almost any situation. There’s no tripod mount on the waterproof housing, though an additional accessory will allow you to mount it. There are numerous third-party options available on the market for the GoPro – from alternative mounts and lenses to silicon cases and more. Have just taken delivery of new Hero 3 Black surf edition, this does not include a floaty back door. GoPro is actively developing firmware and software releases for their units and the additional accessories available from both GoPro and third parties combined with the high level of support from the user community makes this a fantastic little unit. Even though very secure when applied correctly I still use a use a short length of high quality string to tether it to my bike just in case it loses suction and comes off mid ride (this luckily has never happened to me). My personal best is Hero 3 by far but haven’t checked on Hero 4 Black yet which I hear good reviews about. The Hero2 has three smaller recording indicator lights; one on the top, one on the bottom (useful if the camera is mounted upside down) and one on the back. The Wifi BacPac will allow you to use your smartphone, tablet or computer to adjust camera settings, preview and review video and photos wirelessly using wifi! This will allow you to remotely control multiple cameras via the supplied remote or with a smartphone or tablet. You also have the ability to live preview on your smartphone or tablet. I’ve even purchased the LCD panel for the unit so that I can frame my video and photos better. I have also ordered a tripod mount, which will be quite useful for main personal, but was wondering if I will need extra mounts, specially to attach it to a ski helmet. One thing that might save some people a bit of time is if I explain the mysterious white rubber thing that comes supplied with the accessories. This is used to secure the mounting clip to the mounting bracket, not only to stop it coming loose, but also to reduce the amount of movement in the bracket. But is has served me well accompanying me on many thousands of miles and many hundreds of hours of HD video.  There are also additional LED recording lights which flash red when the camera is recrding. The new still photo improvements make the HD HERO2 one of the most advanced and fastest sports cameras around. I have found that some retailers sell the same capacity Micro version for less than the standard size. From my own measurements this is correct and infact the Hero 3 silver edition that I have seems to be even lighter. Each different resolution has it’s own advantages and disadvantages in terms of vertical and horizontal view, field of view, and ultimately, the end file size. A jaw dropping 10 frames per second means you will never miss that perfect once in a lifetime shot. In terms on mounts, if you’re buying the Hero2 it will depend on which of the 3 packs you purchase. A Wifi BacPac + Wifi Remote is due for release soon with full functionality, including video preview and playback and wifi streaming to web, only available on the Hero2. Even most top of the line DSL’s that cost thousands of dollars cannot shoot faster than this camera. You can see on the back that they even give you recommendations for which back to use based on your speed. And if I don’t want to spoil the adhesive and the helmet I will have to let it on forever, which I also dislike. Adding a third party lense option can also allow you to run filters like a circular polariser, on your Hero2. The external 3.5mm microphone input means you can attach any third party mic and get superior audio for your action videos. I know, so that’s why I got the Outdoor edition for 199$ I do not need any of the extra stuff that the 3 brings and I will not use it thoroughly, so 199$ is OK.
