The company’s response was a promised add-on LCD screen module, although HERO owners have been waiting some time for that gizmo to show itself. The screen is clear and viewing playback of both images and video is easy under both artificial and natural light. It attaches to the camera via the HERO Port™ - a small expansion port located on the back of the camera. The functionality of the touch screen isn’t bad, but if you are expecting an iPhone or iPad experience then you will be disappointed. Well, they need wait no longer, as GoPro announced today that its LCD BacPac is available for purchase.As you can see it adds about a quarter-inch of depth onto the camera but comes with a replacement back door to retain compatibility with all mounts. The LCD BacPac comes supplied in the standard GoPro packaging which makes it great for shop display but I think that the amount of packaging provided could be rationalised. Contour is working on a viewfinder app for iOS and Android devices that will wirelessly stream video, but that's not out yet. All in all I would recommend the LCD BacPac as a worthy accessory to get hold of if your budget can take it. The LCD BacPac clips into an already-existing expansion port on the back of the camera – it will not work with the new HERO 960, however. GoPro’s HERO HD actioncam has been probably the best-known and most widely-used actioncam for a few years now, but it’s always had one limitation – the lack of an LCD screen.  We spent a little quality time with one at CES, a tiny screen that clips on the back of a 1080p HD Hero and lets you see what's being filmed and also play back what you've captured earlier. As a removable accessory, the LCD BacPac keeps your camera as small and light as possible, yet provides the convenience of an LCD screen when attached. Because the screen will increase the overall thickness of the camera, a deeper replacement back door for its housing is included with the module – in fact, there are actually four doors included in the kit: watertight doors for both the regular and wrist-mounted versions of the camera, and lighter, non-waterproof “skeleton” doors for both models. A firm press is required and the X icon that appears in the top right hand corner of each of the screens can be a little tricky to hit first time. The icons are OK being fairly crisp and of a size that most fingers won’t have issue with. The LCD BacPac is a small unit that clips onto the back of a camera and is powered from the camera itself. The new backdoors allow both housings to fully enclose the HD HERO camera plus LCD BacPac within the respective housings. While the camera’s 170-degree fisheye lens is sufficient to capture most of the action, there are always those situations where users want to check exactly how the shot is lined up, or that their recorded footage worked out the way they hoped it would.
