Экшн камера drift hd 170

One of the common problems of CMOS based cameras is the rolling shutter effect and judging from the test video I tool (while riding next to horizontal bridge railings), the drift HD 170 keeps it to a minimum. Global SMT & Packaging magazine for electronics assembly and advanced packaging professionals. Because point of view cameras record at such a wide angle of view, they are not ideal for this application, as a duck flying 100 feet away is literally going to look like a spec on the screen. I was seriously going to get a GoPro for street bike riding until watching footage (is that the right word anymore) from riders on the streets. Drift is coming out with an optional larger size battery which will be huge help for below freezing temperatures. Want the best video quality and mounting options, however, as it is a bit tricky to mount these in such a manner as to really portray the excitement of the sports whilst keeping the camera stable and safe from ground fall! I’m sure a couple videos(different sports and light conditions) would help out with the rest of us sitting on the fence which camera to get right now. He lives in Edmonton, Alberta, where he spends a lot of time going over the handlebars of his mountain bike, hanging out in off-leash parks, and wishing the Pacific Ocean wasn't so far away. In 1080p mode… the HD170 records at 127°, otherwise in 720p or SD mode, it films at 170. For now, if you click the deep link from the top of this blog post reading: Newly Added Night Mode Demo Video, you can see a demo video by Drift testing out Night Mode. I hooked this badboy up to my 50 inch plasma via the included component cables and it simply blew me away! Helmet Camera Central was born as a result of our helmet cam experiences from our video consulting business, Two Brothers Video.
If you are expecting to shoot in low light or very bright conditions, the drift cameras offers adjustable exposure settings as well as night mode. The on-screen menus are very easy to navigate, so changing any video and photo settings is a snap. I found myself rotating the lens back and forth as I switched between the different mounting configurations on my bike and ended up with upright footage every time -  sweet! I would like to use it for skiing, and i am very novice, and i dont wanna damage my lens fast.
With previous narrower angle cameras it was difficult to gain perspective of the speed that you were going because the lens only saw the track in front of you.
There will be no difference in video quality between 30 and 60 fps unless you are planning to take 60fps footage and post process it using Cinema Tools or similar application to get the slow motion effect you might have seen on some of the GoPro videos on line. An experienced freelance writer, videographer and television producer, Ben's interest in all forms of innovation is particularly fanatical when it comes to human-powered transportation, film-making gear, environmentally-friendly technologies and anything that's designed to go underwater. Suddenly you can film from unimaginable places, with awesome angles than you ever thought possible - all in fluid HD clarity. This camera would likely work for your intended application as there are many bike and car racing videos using this camera. We found that having a screen on the camera itself is a seriously useful function to have for two main reasons; firstly you can line up the best angle when mounting the camera so that you don’t get home after a long day out expecting to see brilliant videos only to find that you have been filming blue sky all day. Boasting a user friendly design, the HD170 has a fool proof control panel, providing large buttons for things you need, eliminating unnecessary buttons to keep the body slim and streamlined. The HD170 runs on a new 1100mAh battery which can provide more than 4 hours of record time under the right conditions. So blow your mind each time you revisit your triumphs, in true 1080p HD resolution and impress you friends and family with more than just a story. Got myself a Tachyon XC 2010 camera, still in the box, because I was not happy that the camera did not have a viewing screen. Drift Innovation claims it's because of the added screen size, which is understandable, but it still seems like it could have been a bit smaller. My mountain bike one includes quite a few shots into the sun and I didn’t see any vertical lines with the Drift HD170. If you are looking for a great quality wearable HD camera with a built in LCD screen, loads of mounting options and a remote control, the Drift Innovation HD170 is a hands down winner. From VIO reviews they seem to rate 8-10 hours on a set of AAs but the Drift significantly less. Not the end of the world for the videos I’ll be doing, but in no way would the audio this thing produces ever be usable. We can't recommend the HD170 enough, build quality, video quality, waterproof, remote control, it has it all! Rolling shutter is the effect you may have seen that causing things to look wobbly and elastic when there's a lot of motion in a video. The Drift mic has a waterproof seal over it which will dampen the audio, so you won’t get much wind noise, but may not hear ambient sounds or speech. Since 2005, we have reviewed numerous helmet camera systems with an unbiased and objective point of view.
While for most people this is simply a nice add on, for others such as Military or Law and Enforcement this is a must have feature. Which isn't a huge deal considering the competition doesn't even have a remote to begin with. If you need to focus audio to your voice or another location, there is the optional External Mic. There is a rubber pad on the inside of the mount to keep it steady and it can be tightened into place with the lock-screw. I exported it in 720p size (1280 x 720), downsized from 1080p to make sure most people can stream it from Youtube and other video sharing sites. I would rather put up with the cons from the GoPro, than have to listen to the wind howel over the sound of my sled purr. The Drift HD170 should probably work pretty well for a camera can take handle the toughest weather conditions. Usually this means mounting the camera in an inconvenient location on a roll cage where its not easy to turn on and off, especially when strapped in. Having this thread on the camera opens up a world of opportunities for mounting as you can attach it to suction mounts and roll bar mounts. The optional expanded 1700mAh battery is a great choice for long days of shooting or when you are working in cold climates. It's a little on the large size, and while it does look pretty bulky in pictures, it's not quite as big as it looks (it's pretty thin). You can expect to record around 15 minutes for every gigabyte of storage space on your memory card. Like Contour Drift HD has an outstanding video quality and the wrist mounted remote comes in hand for your sport. It makes it a dream to change menu settings and camera functions it also enables to set up your mounts correctly without trial and error and to review your footage on the spot, without needing a computer or external monitor.
One feature I had no idea existed - but was pleasantly surprised in finding, was the digital zoom.
The built in speaker, given it’s small size, does its job very well when playing back the captured footage. The addition of the RF remote control gives you the ability to mount the cameras anywhere and remotely start and stop the camera from up to 5 m (15 feet) away. A limited supply of Drift HD170 1080p cameras is expected to arrive in late July so Pre-Order Yours today! With several mounts included, LCD and a remote control we highly recommend it for this application. Audio quality is also much improved over it's predecessor and we really like the fact that it has an external microphone jack, which can be very handy when trying to capture great audio, especially in a high wind situation. Hi, I need your help!  I want to buy a camera that can be mounted on a motorbike for track race recording. It shoots both high definition videos (up to 1080p) and 5 Mega Pixel Stills - allowing you to capture the action from your unique point of view. The camera doesn’t always have to be mounted upright; it can be mounted sideways or upside down with an easy twist of the lens, post-production flipping, or the use of conversion mounts is no longer necessary.
Q: With 1080p videos created on my Point-and-Shoot, I find long pans very hard to watch unless they are extremely slow. The Drift Innovation HD170 1080p Action Camera is made for those who demand simply the best.
The Drift HD170 is the latest and greatest camera from Drift Innovation, the company who previously brought us the X170. Both activities are done with helmets (we’re not THAT crazy!!) and can be in pretty incliment weather (rain, snow, sleet, the likes). So I ask you, for allaround (ski, windsurf, mountainbike, etc) wich camera is the best, considering the price. While the Drift HD170 is not the first wearable high definition camera, it certainly is if we are talking about one with a built in LCD screen and a speaker so you can preview your shots right after you take them. I really do prefer the remote option on horseback but would favor ease of download and compatability as well, since I am NOT a computer whiz and get pretty frustrated with such issues! If you did not purchase from us, please contact the retailer or Drift directly to help you out. If you’re having problems with your HD170 in the warranty period and purchased the camera from us, please feel free to contact us by email, live chat or phone and we can assist you with processing a warranty claim. Helmetcams, lipstick cameras, action cameras - whatever you call them, there’s something endlessly fun and fascinating about tiny, rugged video cameras that can be mounted just about anywhere, put through all sorts of abuse, and then proceed to output first-person videos that put your viewers right in the action. However you don’t really need to look further then your HD170 box for all the mounts that you might need.
Also, to phill, \"Waterproof up to 0.5 m.\" technically means that it\'s splashproof - kind of a confusing system, I know! As for the coupon code, you need to apply the coupon code before checking out… and it will not apply to megapacks or open box.
Another nice (and often inquired about feature), is the ability to Date & Time stamp the videos and images taken. It also films when hooked into the cigarette lighter to charge… pretty cool stuff… so looks like you are all set! If that’s not enough, you can put the camera in power saving mode where the LCD screen turns off after moments of inactivity (when you are not pressing any of the buttons). The Drift HD170 is equipped with a fully rotatable 170 degree wide angle lens, which allows you to set up crazy mounting angles and still get a straight shot.
On the underside of the HD170 there is a built-in steel quarter inch thread (8mm thread) which is the standard thread on most cameras.
It comes with a strap to put it around your wrist, on handlebars or wherever else you may want it. The camera also has input port for an external mic, for those shoots that require a bit more audio concentration.
One of the first features that you’ll notice when taking your new HD170 out of the box is the 1.5" screen.
The minute the camera arrived from the UK, I opened the box, took some preliminary products shots (included in this review) and, the following morning at 7 am went out for a mountain bike ride to test the capabilities of the camera and to capture some test footage.
It’s nice to see individual blades of grass wizzing by, the rubber texture of a bike tire or the shine of a rain drop. Out of the box, the GoPro HD menu takes some time to get used to navigating, but with the new LCD BacPac, you will be able to view the menu in a much more intuitive way and make sure the camera is set up for the perfect angle.

This gives you the flexibility to mount the camera on either side of your helmet and on top while still being able to have an upright image by simply twisting the lens around.
It can also continuously shoot 5mp stills, comes with an assortment of mounting options and has a remote control, so you can start and stop recording even if the camera is mounted in a hard-to-reach place.
Not only that but we've heard that Drift Innovation will be releasing a 1700mAh battery sometime in the future, so you could be looking at some serious battery life.
It is slightly heavier but the form factor more than makes up for it and not having it stick off the top of your helmet catching tree branches or looking silly is worth a lot. My biggest concern is that when riding, the wind sound is going to ruin the sound of my sled or bike. Another impressive feature is the 170 degree wide angle rotating lens, which gives users a lot more flexibility when mounting the camera.
It will likely experience some camera shake, as it would while attached to a bike… from the movement and shock. I love the remote and the lcd screen but if the sound is crap then its a deal breaker for me. Unfortunately I was greatly disappointed that being able to read number plates from passing cars was almost impossible.
Are you curious to see what comes in the box with the Drift HD170 Action Sports Camera - we were… so we opened it up! There is no need to doubt the strength of these sticky pads, just make sure that you have them in the correct place before sticking them down as it’s really tough to remove but you don’t have to worry about your paint. The rubber like jacket surrounding the camera gives it a bit extra impact protection while keeping the elements out.
It would be nice if the HD170 was able to record 60FPS in 720p, it really is a neat feature and the competition does include it. Where as we could rarely get 2 hours out of the X170 with AA batteries, the HD170's 1100mAh battery pack lasted just over 4 hours! Just in case you’ve managed to read this far down the review without being able to understand English, you would be pleased to know that the instruction manual and the cameras menus are multilingual. However I cannot say for sure as I have not yet viewed a video from the HD170 in a hunting situation, and there is a chance that the force could result in a failed recording. Although at the beginning, when Mark is speaking to the camera… they are using a GoPro HD Hero. As to be expected from a 1080p capable camera the video quality of the HD170 1080p is outstanding - a drastic improvement from its predecessor -  the X170 which shot video at mere SD resolution.
Below you will find some earlier footage demonstrating the LCD and some of the menu options and functions. The screen is still there with all the same controls, making it easy to adjust settings and review footage. I\'ve used my ContourHD while riding on my ZZR400 through Okinawa in some rather ridiculous downpours - it\'s not waterproof, but it has held up in some nasty conditions. Since we use helmet camera systems in addition to selling them, our reviews result from actual day-to-day experiences with the products. This next video was shot a few days after by Mark Z and a friend on their Vancouver to Whistler drive in Mark friends Civic Si. It’s a much better camera than the Tachyon XC and we have a Vancouver location so you will get the Drift the day they arrive (if you pre-order).
In addition, yes, you can take single stills when in regular camera mode - and both the burst and photo modes are usable via the remote. The best bet for gun mounting is the VIO, as it has a separate recording unit and camera head, plus it is small enough to mount to the barrel with the Double-Hook and Loop Mount it comes with. This truly puts the speed in perspective and is the way forward for point-of-view cameras. The rear of the camera houses the back hatch which, when opened exposes the USB slot for downloadingvideos to your computer and charging the battery.
But for commentary, etc… it is advised to use an external mic, which there is an input specifically for. I found that mounting the camera to your gear such as your bike, airplane, sled, atv (what ever you are riding) provides the most stable platform. Helmet Camera Central is a resource designed to help people find objective and pertinent information about helmet camera systems. The only other issue we have with the camera is the fact that the remote is not waterproof. We’ve valiantly tried to cover the various makes and models as they’ve come out, and they’ve all had their good points and their compromises.
It helps you reduce bulk of excess equipment by providing the ability to shoot 5 mega pixel still images in single or photo burst mode. The headstrap can also be used together with the goggle mount whenever you don’t have a helmet with you. I was considering a Vio POV 1.5 but this seems to do everything I need without the hassle of a tethered box.
As I write this the battery is still running strong after the display has been on for more than 4 hours. Other nifty features include an external microphone input, manual iris capability, and a low-light mode. Hi I was hoping to take this camera on tour with the army to film combat, and have a few questions…. The built-in microphone of the HD170 does a great job of capturing the relevant sounds of what ever action fueled activity you are filming while keeping the effects of wind noise down to a minimum. The manual with six languages already on it and the language on the camera can be changed easily in the menu settings.
There has been a bit of a delay and we are now expecting the cameras to be available in late July or early august. We are also here to answer your questions and help you choose a helmet camera system that meets your needs. White balance and auto exposure can at times be problematic on wearable cameras but I must say from what I’ve seen so far (and using the default neutral auto exposure setting), the HD170 handles fast changing lighting conditions quite well. PointofViewCameras is the most helpful site I’ve seen so I thought I would ask the pros. This camera is designed with smart, real life use features to capture all of your crazy adventures in the highest possible recording quality. The Drift Microphone connects into the AV connector located behind the rear hatch of the camera. The lens can be rotated into any position through out the full 360 degree range, compared to the Contour HD lens which can only be rotated within 180 degree range or the GoPro which does not have a rotating lens (although they are just about to release a firmware update which will allow the users to flip the image vertically). Other upgrades include a lithium ion battery pack as opposed to AA batteries and support for up to 32GB SDHC Cards.Read Below for a full review of this awesome new camera from Drift Innovation. The lastest release by GSM Outdoors in the Epic Stealth Cam range has 1080p and a 168 wide eye lens. Keep in mind this video was shot for the Drift X170 (SD model) however the functionality of the HD170 is very similar. However, I’m happy to report that the battery ended up lasting long after the two and a half hour shooting session was over, despite of having the LCD turned on all of the time.
And if our recommended systems do not fit your needs, we will put you in contact with the right vendor to find the best solution.
While their website does list 720p as a lower-resolution option, it also indicates 1080p as the maximum resolution.
Mountable to pretty much anything your mind can fathom, this wicked little system comes with a multiple mounting options including; handlebar mount, goggle mount, helmet mount, head strap, velcro strap and a universal mount.
Paulgo, Ed- I am thinking you guys woke up on the wrong side of the bed today or you have never actually used a helmet camera. I would suggest filming in 720 p mode which gives the 170° ultra wide angle to capture parts of your glider and everything around you.
If you're looking for a camera that records in stunning HD, has an LCD screen and a remote, and has amazing battery life, look no further. There are many systems out there, but the ones we recommend provide exceptional quality and services for the best return on your investment. We said it in the review for the X170 as well, but the screen really does make things that much easier.
I noticed that when the camera is mounted to a rigid surface (for example to a bike frame or seat post)  the sound tends to be a bit harsher (brighter) as vibrations get amplified.
The HD170 can also be hooked directly to your television for FULL HD playback with the included HDMI Cable; and because it is Mac and PC compatible, hooking it to your computer with the included USB cable for editing is a snap.
I have used a lot of POV cameras and this looks to be the best combination of features yet. Secondly, and more importantly is watching your videos on the screen straight after you’ve come off the slope, track, or water with your mates! There are breaks at the main positions that will hold the lens steady once you have found the angle that you want. While this feature will make your footage look kind of fisheye-ish, it’s entirely appropriate for action videos - the more that your audience can see in both the foreground and background, the more immersive the viewing experience. This means you can mount the camera in whatever orientation works best (sideways, for instance), then just swivel the lens around to straighten out the shot. The ability to line up shots precisely, then check on-site that everything worked, are essential to shooting the kind of wild-n-crazy videos for which actioncams are designed. For the first time ever, everything you are looking for in a wearable camera is included in one small package, enabling you to start recording as soon as you open the box, without having to search out mandatory filming accessories.
Proportionate size difference between GoPro HD Helmet Hero, Contour HD 1080p and Drift HD170 Action Cameras. In addition to shooting brilliant 1080p video, the Drift HD170 Action Camera is quite capable of shooting Five Mega Pixel photos.
I was privileged and lucky enough to receive the newly released Drift HD 170 Camera from Drift Innovation a few days ago. The helmet mount is designed to fit onto a helmet or smooth surface such as a bikes fairing. You must have JavaScript enabled in your browser to utilize the functionality of this website.
This adapter is a quick release adapter which is used to attach the camera to each of the mounting options in the box. Unlike some point of view cameras, the Drift HD 170 comes standard with a wide range of mounts.
Another welcome feature is the Optional External Microphone which can be great for in-car footage or a life saver in high wind situations.
Amongst the features this thing offers, the most important differences I can see with the Drift HD170 would be the external mic input, remote control, and manual iris control. The quality is deplorable- way below anything I\'ve seen with a supposed \"HD\" resolution. Because it works radio frequency (as opposed to infra-red) it doesn’t need line-of-sight to operate which just make life all that much easier. In addition to the Full HD 1080p video, the camera is also capable of shooting 720p and WSGA video all up to 30 fps.
