While the ability to capture 60 frames per second is exciting, it isn't particularly useful for distributing video footage because YouTube and DVDs do not support 60 frames per second. My mountain bike one includes quite a few shots into the sun and I didn’t see any vertical lines with the Drift HD170. The on-screen menus are very easy to navigate, so changing any video and photo settings is a snap. This camera would likely work for your intended application as there are many bike and car racing videos using this camera. Another welcome feature is the Optional External Microphone which can be great for in-car footage or a life saver in high wind situations. Editing software compatibility is key if you want to take captured raw video into the editor of your choice. ContourHD comes with a wide 135 degree lens which gives it a nice blend between catching all the action and over distortion. This handy little device can charge your ContourHD off of any 12 volt power source while recording. I love the remote and the lcd screen but if the sound is crap then its a deal breaker for me. Because point of view cameras record at such a wide angle of view, they are not ideal for this application, as a duck flying 100 feet away is literally going to look like a spec on the screen. It’s easy to use, dialed in for outdoor lighting conditions, and captures beautiful HD video (720p) or SD action video (60 frames per second). With no wires or tapes, the ContourHD helmet cam makes it easy to capture Full HD video from within the action. The lens can be rotated into any position through out the full 360 degree range, compared to the Contour HD lens which can only be rotated within 180 degree range or the GoPro which does not have a rotating lens (although they are just about to release a firmware update which will allow the users to flip the image vertically). Not the end of the world for the videos I’ll be doing, but in no way would the audio this thing produces ever be usable.
